Background of the Study
Radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology has revolutionized warehouse management by enabling real-time tracking of inventory, reducing errors, and improving operational efficiency. RFID systems use electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects, offering significant advantages over traditional barcode systems (Johnson & Adebisi, 2023). Lafarge Africa, a leading construction materials company, relies on warehouse management systems to streamline its supply chain operations in Borno State, where efficient material handling is crucial to meeting market demands.
The adoption of RFID tracking in warehouse management enhances inventory visibility, reduces stock discrepancies, and improves decision-making. However, challenges such as high implementation costs, technical complexity, and limited expertise hinder the widespread adoption of RFID technology in Nigeria (Afolabi et al., 2024). This study examines the effectiveness of RFID tracking in warehouse management at Lafarge Africa, highlighting its benefits, challenges, and impact on supply chain operations.
Statement of the Problem
Warehouse management is a critical aspect of supply chain operations, directly influencing inventory accuracy, order fulfillment, and cost efficiency. For Lafarge Africa in Borno State, implementing RFID tracking systems offers the potential to overcome traditional warehouse management challenges, such as manual errors and inefficient inventory tracking. However, issues such as high costs, infrastructure deficits, and resistance to technology adoption pose significant barriers (Ali et al., 2023).
Despite the recognized benefits of RFID technology, limited research exists on its effectiveness in warehouse management within the Nigerian context. This study addresses this gap by appraising the role of RFID tracking in improving warehouse management at Lafarge Africa in Borno State.
